Marvella Lavender Faux Pearl Brooch

The colors in this piece are so delicious!  And so is the style: three huge faux pearls in lavender resemble eggplants or some exotic fruit.  The enameled leaves are shaded in blue and green, all with goldtone settings.  The pearls and lower leaf are articulated and dangling, so they'll sway as you move.  One small defect in the enameling on the lower leaf, otherwise super condition.  Marked: Marvella

Reinad

This company produced a variety of beautiful costume pieces from about 1922 to the mid-1950s.  Some early pieces were marketed under the Chanel name (Chanel Novelty Co.), but objects from the House of Chanel spurred a name change.  After 1944 jewelry were made in partnership with Sceptron Jewelry Creations and they bear the Sceptron mark.  Reinad also produced jewelry for other firms.

Jewelry with this mark was produced by Joseph H. Meyer Bros. beginning in 1911.  The company specialized in simulated pearl pieces and also produced some lovely "moonglow" beaded jewelry in the 1950s.

Lea Stein

Known for her whimsical and darling designs, Lea Stein began designing her pieces in 1968.  Their construction uses lamination of the cellulose acetate material.  Vintage pieces were produced until 1981 when the business faltered.  Lea Stein returned to designing jewelry around 1990 and adds 1-2 new designs each year.   Please note that references cited for Collecting Art Plastic Jewelry are for the actual piece loaned to the author for the book.

Lea Stein Red Headed "Tennis Lady" Brooch

This darling lady has nice detail and artistry in the patterned and pearly plastics making up the piece.  She looks like she stepped out of an Art Deco painting with her outfit of red and white moiré, coral scarf, and bobbed hairdo in a deep glowing red.  She's one of the rarest of the Stein figurals and mimics the artwork of Georges Lepape, illustrator for Paul Poiret fashions in 1911.    Marked: Lea Stein, Paris

This company was formed in 1970 by Michael Tancer, Marge Borofsky and Lynne Gordon, who had all worked at Coro when it closed that year.  The two sisters, Borofsky and Gordon, had previously made jewelry under the Mylu label, and Tancer & II, producing jewelry for only 9 years, was also known for figurals and holiday styles.

Vivid Floral Brooch & Earrings Set

Best described as vivid, this brooch and clip earring set is alive with color!  Both the large navettes (marquise shaped stones) and round stones in pink, fuchsia blues and olive are beautifully offset with the japanned (black enameled) setting.  The plaque bearing the mark on the brooch is illegible because of the enameling, but has been identified as Weiss from a brooch with a legible mark.
