Weiss  ~

Founded in 1942 by Albert Weiss, a former Coro employee, jewelry from the Weiss Co. is very well known and is often associated with the glitzy rhinestone jewelry of the 1950s-1960s.  There is conflicting information about whether or not the company designed or manufactured jewelry, but it's established that some was made by other manufacturers such as DeLizza & Elster (of Juliana fame) and Hollywood Jewelry (Hollycraft).  The firm ceased operation in the early 1970s.

Vivid Floral Brooch & Earrings Set

US022.JPG (36812 bytes)

Best described as vivid, this brooch and clip earring set is alive with color!  Both the large navettes (marquise shaped stones) and round stones in pink, fuchsia blues and olive are beautifully offset with the japanned (black enameled) setting.  The plaque bearing the mark on the brooch is illegible because of the enameling, but has been identified as Weiss from a brooch with a legible mark.
