The
2009 Jewelcollect

|
Come share the fun and fellowship as we share our favorite pieces of
critter jewelry.
Whether elegant, sentimental or whimsical, these jool pets, gathered
from around the world, have stories to tell and are a delight to behold! |
Squirrelly Shirley
Brooch
This
adorable 1930s pavé rhinestone and enamel piece was a must-have for me when I first saw it.
I have an ongoing squirrel joke with a friend based on the amusing and
sometimes destructive antics of our
resident rodents. Since I've named my furry visitors Shirley and Earl,
this piece is jewel Shirley, waiting for her 'Earl' to come along.

Crabby Clip
I found this crab
dress clip in my mother's jewelry box many years ago. He
belonged to my grandmother and has always been one of my sentimental
favorites. Made of bakelite in a creamed spinach color, he is ready
to pinch you!

Maybe Jumps Over
The Moon
 |
Maybe is my
Australian Kelpie. A friend who helped us learn how to work Maybe on
sheep, had this specially made for me. Maybe is now 15 years old,
and while she doesn't jump any more, she still grins! Her likeness
is polymer clay and sterling silver by clay artist Mimi.

Elzac Pegasus
This flying horse is
so cheerful and cute, and that lucite wing really does look lighter than
air. Makes me want to climb on board and go for a ride through the clouds!

Graceful
Swimmer
This
is one of the first pieces added to my collection, when I decided to
collect jewelry. I almost offered her for sale, and I am so glad
now that I changed my mind! Admiring this fish all along, I had
the photos taken and was writing a description when I realized I just
couldn't sell her! She is from the 1940's, marked Sterling.

Bakelite Jake
This cute
bakelite cat is my favorite pet brooch. It reminds me so much of my 22
pound yellow cat, Jake, who is now 13 years old. I've been informed that
this is a very rare piece, so that makes it just a tad more special.

Flamboyant Phoenix
I have a small collection of "big
bird" pins and this is an unsigned beauty. I call it a Phoenix and think
it is very elegant. The colors are wonderful and I have never seen another
like it.

Nadasy, The
Steeplechaser

|
|
The
steeplechase jockey brooch above reminds me of my wonderful horse Nadasy.
Blind in one eye, he was named after my Hungarian coach Capt. Nadasy
(who was blind in the same eye). Whether we were competing at the USET
at Gladstone, or at horse trials, steeplechase racing or fox hunting in
VA, or competing at the WIHS, he was a reliable, fantastic jumper and
all around great horse.

Happy
Critters
I call these jewel pets 'Puttin'
on the Ritz Froggy' and 'No Angel Heckle or Jeckle', and love them because
they're so happy! Even on days when I forget to smile, these little
guys do it for me and keep things copacetic with the people I meet.

Shaggy Dog
I love wolves, shaggy
dogs of all sizes, and chains. This guy fits them all, so he is my
favorite jool pet! He was also my first "big" jewelry purchase of over
$50.

Barrie
This is my "sheltie" pin (although I am sure it was designed to be a
collie). I bought it so, as in life, all the cats (i.e. pins) would
have a "sheltie" for company. In my life, Barrie was that sheltie.
